Rhythm Is Therapy
I’m Coach Carl Fears, The Senior Trainer
Today we’re talking about rhythm, and no, I’m not just talking about dancing.
Rhythm is part of movement.
It’s part of walking
It’s part of stretching
It’s part of training
It’s part of the way your body learns to move and respond, Sometimes people think exercise has to be punishment.
It has to hurt
It has to be extreme
It has to leave you exhausted
But movement doesn’t always have to feel that way, Sometimes you just need to get your body moving.
Put on a song
Start walking
Stretch
Move your shoulders
Move your hips
Get some blood flowing
Find your rhythm
Because sometimes the motivation doesn’t come first, sometimes the movement creates the motivation
That’s important, especially as we get older movement can help us continue working on our coordination, balance, mobility, endurance, strength, and confidence and you don’t have to start with an hour.
Here’s something simple I want you to try.
The one-song challenge.
Put on one song and move for the length of that song.
Walk
Stretch
Step side to side
Move at a level that is appropriate for you
When the song ends, ask yourself:
Can I do one more?
Sometimes that first song is all it takes to get you started and remember, everybody is starting from a different place.
You don’t have to walk through the doors already fit that’s what the journey is for, we’ll meet you where you are.
The goal is to keep moving, keep building, and continue doing what you safely can and if you have an injury, medical condition, or something doesn’t feel right, get guidance from the appropriate healthcare professional.
But don’t underestimate the power of simply getting started.
